One night during the Maxim days, we were at a CAA party in New York City, and mutual friend and colleague Claudia Nicolayevsky introduced me to the very funny Drew Carey, and we struck up a friendship. We invited him to our staff retreat to Jamaica, bringing along Sam Simon, the late co-creator of the Simpsons. And it was there that we struck a bargain: Drew would write an article for Maxim (about his heart-health troubles) and I'd write an episode of his show. Being in the writer's room—where literally, anything goes, and very funny professional comics are trying like hell to crack each other up—is one of the great experiences I'll never forget. My episode was "Drew Live III," in case you ever catch it in syndication.
You know, the best thing about a train is that women can only run so far before they run out of cars.
Right. And I have to believe that there's at least one woman on this train who'd rather talk to us than leap to her death.
You're probably wrong, but we have to try.
